Infections kill.  Hospitals are hotbeds of infection.  After all, that is where sick people are.  The best defense against infection is good hygiene.  In this article, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times recounts the loss of her brother after he entered the hospital and acquired four new infections in the ICU.  She makes an excellent point when she urges family members to insist that the nurses, and even the doctors, practice good hygiene before attending to patients.  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/13/opinion/13dowd.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
