Brachial Plexus Injury

Arizona Medical Malpractice Lawyers for Victims of Brachial Plexus Injury

Brachial plexus injuries occur when there is damage to the nerves that originate in the lower cervical and upper thoracic spine.  Brachial plexus injuries often occur as a result of shoulder trauma during birth and can cause permanent, debilitating conditions.  Sometimes brachial plexus injuries occur that are the fault of no one.  On other occasions, they occur because of medical malpractice.

In addition to birth trauma, brachial plexus injuries can be caused by a variety of traumatic events where the nerves are stretched or torn.  Brachial plexus injuries can often affect the function of the entire arm, but more frequently, they involve either the upper arm (also known as an Erb’s palsy) or the wrist, hand, and fingers (known as Klumpke’s paralysis). While many brachial plexus injuries heal without treatment, those that do not improve within about 6 months are often permanent.  Surgery may be required to repair the injured area.
